I’m not at all superstitious, but something about Friday the 13th has me feeling a little like I’m lost in the dark – or maybe that’s just because I’ve spent the better part of the kids’ nap time in a dark bathroom trying to figure out the best placement for the peacock mural that will be gracing our otherwise very boring walls.

We went with the beige wall so that it wouldn’t compete with the bright teal shower curtain we have in mind, and allow us to do a mural on the wall to tie the whole theme together. When it comes to peacocks, the color pallet is pretty much a given, it’s the implementation of the elements that gives it that overall peacock feel.

We decided that our mural had to be an actual peacock – mostly because this is a kids bathroom and a large painting would keep it fun and slightly whimisical. So how does one put up a mural on a wall when they aren’t a professional mural painter and can bust it right from their brain? Magic, that’s how. {source}

Some years ago my mother gave me this prism art projector. It displays a picture of whatever you put inside it onto a wall, a canvas, or anything you want.
The nice thing is that unlike a projector that you are familiar with from school, this one will let you put in a photograph, image, or picture without it being on transparent paper.

So I’ve decided to use this image as my base template – and I’ll be making some changes to the outlines, colors, and form once I can dive in and get the paint out. The tracing of the image took about 2.5 hours, but the actual painting will take much longer than that once I start.
Guess you know what I’ll be working on this weekend…
Update: We finished the peacock mural up and posted all about it here.
Update: Want to see how it all turned out? We’ve posted the final reveal and cost break down for the kid’s peacock bathroom here.
Please join us the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month for the
Repurpose-Remodel-Reveal
Linky Party!

Love the idea, but personally, I’d paint the peacock more realistic than the funky original!
Whitney,
That is one crazy detailed weekend project. But you really are an artist at heart with such a steady hand and amazing results …
Hey, maybe this could be your “impossibilities” challenge project to post later this month. Trust me, many of us out here will be in awe of your artistic prowess!

Maybe Friday the 13th will turn out to be your lucky day (it is for me, I got married on a Fri 13th)! Wow – what patience to draw the peacock on the wall. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Thanks for posting our Impossibilities Challenge button.
Kelly
